Our Philosophy

Forever learning
Free play
Risk taking

General Philosophy of Riverside Educare

We believe that creating respectful and meaningful relationships with the tamariki and their whanau are at the heart of all that we do. We are a team of caring, compassionate, empathetic, affectionate and passionate kaiako who value team work. We are forever learning and love to take on opportunities to reflect and grow through professional development.

We create a nurturing environment where tamariki learn through free and spontaneous play. We believe in making the most of the learning opportunities that rituals, routines or one on one key moments provide.

We believe in authentic teaching and planning; Our kaiako set up purposeful learning environments with open ended resources and with the freedom of movement. We have a large, spacious playground where tamariki learn to challenge themselves physically and take risks within a safe environment.

We value our bicultural heritage of Aotearoa, the Treaty of Waitangi and also the multi-cultural diversity of our local community, this underlies all that we do here at Riverside Educare.

Our team of kaiako have a love of the outdoors and nature and bring aspects of this into their day to day teaching and learning here at Riverside or out and about exploring in the community that surrounds us.

At Riverside, we have also created a set of learning aspirations. These incorporate our beliefs and strengths as teachers, our whanau aspirations for their children, our children's strengths and interests as well as the New Zealand Early Childhood curriculum, Te Whariki.

Our Learning Aspirations

Relationships/ Aroha

"For our Tamariki to develop meaningful relationships with self, each other, kaiako and their environment"

"For our tamariki to embrace positive awareness of themselves, others and their environment"

Communication / Rongo

"For our tamariki to be able to express themselves through their senses"

"To inspire our tamariki to be curious throughout their day and to seek wonder"
